Welcome to 2026 Tax Season

Hello, 2026 Tax Season!

I’m excited to kick off another tax season with you! This email includes everything you need to know to get started, along with new tools and resources designed to make this season as smooth and efficient as possible.

New this year: I’m trying something different. I’ve created brand-new client process videos to walk you through my workflow, answer common questions, and help you know exactly what to expect. These videos are a major focus this season and are designed to save you time while allowing my team and I to focus on quality tax preparation.

Please take a few minutes to read through this email and watch the video that applies to you.

🎥 NEW THIS YEAR: Client Process Videos
This year, I’m introducing short, educational videos for both new and existing clients. These videos explain my process from start to finish and help eliminate common questions throughout tax season.

Please watch the video that applies to you before moving forward.

🎥 New Clients: If this is your first year working with me, please watch the New Client Video. It covers onboarding, next steps, and how we move from document upload to tax preparation.

👉 Watch the New Client Video: https://youtu.be/nrDd8Ri8Plw?si=xpGjSWKvInSU-eeB

🎥 Existing Clients: Your spot for tax season is already reserved, and you are automatically placed into my workflow each year. Please watch the Existing Client Video. Even if you’re familiar with my process, this video serves as a helpful refresher on updated steps and what to expect this season.

👉 Watch the Existing Client Video: https://youtu.be/LxyhjKDlTEI?si=AU8FuuqTMz1vNQG8

No pre-tax appointment is needed for existing clients. If you have any concerns, changes, updates, or items you’d like to plan for, please add them to the chat feature in the Client Portal. That information will be added to your tax folder, and I will review it with you during your tax review.

Pricing Update
Before getting into the details, I want to say thank you for all your support over the past decade plus. After much thought and careful consideration of the economic environment we’re in, I'VE DECIDED NOT TO RAISE PRICING FOR THE 2026 TAX SEASON, even though the cost of materials, accounting software, and tax software continues to increase.

📌 Moving forward in 2027, certain tax preparation fees will increase by a minimum of 5% annually to reflect inflation and rising operating costs. This allows for gradual, predictable adjustments rather than large price jumps.

Thank you so much for thinking of me and My Tax Lady NC this tax season. I truly don’t take it for granted that you’ve chosen to shop local and support a small, family-owned business. Your trust means more than you know, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve you.

Key Tax Updates – Action Items Only
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) passed in July 2025 introduced several changes that apply to tax years 2025–2028.

📎 Detailed information was shared in a prior newsletter:
Check out the OBBBA newsletter if you missed it👉 https://mytaxladync.com/blog/obbbawhat-it-means-for-your-taxes

Below are a few main action items I need from you this season:
Charitable Donations (Single/HOH $1,000 | MFJ $2,000) Please provide total charitable contributions even if you do not itemize. This is an above the line deduction.
USA-Assembled Vehicle (Purchased in 2025): Upload a loan statement showing year-to-date interest.
Tips & Overtime Income: Upload final 2025 paystub with YTD totals along with your W2. These deductions must be manually calculated by the tax preparer, as W-2 forms will not reflect these updates until later.

📘 2026 Tax Season Survival Guide – 3rd Edition
I’m excited to share the 3rd edition of the Tax Season Survival Guide, designed to help you stay organized and prepared. The guide includes: Tax Organizer, Key deadlines, FAQs, Document tips and Helpful reminders.

Need a Detailed Tax Organizer? Existing clients may request a personalized in-depth Tax Organizer through the Client Portal.
*New clients may request one starting in their second year.

How to Get Started
You will find a TO-DO LIST in your Client Portal designed to guide you through each step of the tax preparation process. Following the list in order will help keep things running smoothly and avoid delays.

Please be sure to use the resources provided alongside the TO-DO LIST, including videos, guides, and portal messages. These tools are there to answer common questions and support you throughout the process.

  1. Upload Documents
Log in to your Client Portal and securely upload your tax documents. Please ensure your name, address, and direct deposit information are up to date (the IRS is phasing out paper checks). You may upload documents all at once or as they become available.

  2. Drop-Off Documents (Optional)
Documents may be dropped off during business hours without an appointment. Appointments are optional but helpful. After-hours drop-offs can be coordinated with Marlene.

  3. Send the “I AM READY” Message — NEW THIS YEAR
Once all documents are uploaded or dropped off, send a message in the Client Portal that says “I AM READY.”
***In prior years, clients requested projects and tracked their status in the portal. This is helpful and still an option.

📌 Once documents are submitted and the “I AM READY” message is sent, your return moves into preparation. Some returns have a quick turnaround, while others may take more time depending on whether this is your first year with me, the complexity of your return, and whether additional information is needed.

Client Communication: Please keep an eye out for emails from the Client Portal, as you’ll receive notifications when you have a new message.

📌 To avoid missing important updates, please add us to your contacts so messages don’t land in your junk or spam folder.
⏱️ Please allow next business day up to 48 hours for responses during tax season.

Final Steps & Tax Reviews
Tax reviews are optional for existing clients and highly recommended for first-year clients. These reviews provide an opportunity to walk through your return and discuss planning considerations.

When your tax return is completed, you will receive:

Your tax results in the Client Portal
A Next Steps video
A written review/attachment summarizing your return

At that time, you may also choose to schedule a tax review appointment if you feel you would benefit from one.

Tax Review Options
Tax reviews are optional for existing clients and highly recommended for first-year clients. These reviews provide an opportunity to walk through your return and discuss planning considerations.

You have two options:
Schedule your tax review in advance for a future date (please allow a minimum of 48 hours after all documents are uploaded), or
Wait to schedule once you are notified that your tax return is ready. This is what most clients prefer.

Every client will receive a written tax review in the Client Portal. A virtual or in-person tax review appointment is optional and should be scheduled only if you feel you would benefit from discussing your return further.

📅 The Tax Review appointment schedule will be released mid-January.
📌 All documents must be uploaded at least 48 hours before any scheduled review.
